Spam Filters
Get familiar with e-mail spam filters, how they work and how to enable them.
A spam filter is a software application that runs on a POP3/IMAP mail server and monitors all incoming emails to stop any unrequested ones from reaching a particular mailbox. A few examples of such emails would be: offers for pills or money, fake bank statements or email attachments that contain malicious software sent with the idea to infect your personal computer. Email filters normally examine the content of an email message and when they spot given keywords or other suspicious content, they either delete the email message or re-send it to the Spam/Junk folder instead of the Inbox folder. Certain web hosting providers combine their own filters with up-to-the-minute databases from spam-tracking organizations, so as to ensure better security for their customers. Such databases include patterns, email server IP addresses and other info about spam messages recently reported by these organizations.

Spam Filters in Website Hosting
The protection of any mailbox that you set up in a
website hosting account with our company is guaranteed by the advanced SpamAssassin email filter that we employ. You can activate it through the Email Manager section of your Hepsia Control Panel and it offers five levels of protection based on the spam score given to each and every email depending on various parameters, such as the recurrence of particular words, the sender, and so on. If you keep receiving unsolicited bulk email messages, you can always raise the level or if you are scared that you may omit an authentic email, you can mix the automatic email filter with a custom one and redirect all email messages from a specific sender to a separate email address. In case you reach the decision that you no longer require anti-spam protection for a given mailbox, you can disable it with only a few mouse clicks.

Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you take advantage of one of our
semi-dedicated servers, you won’t have to worry about unsolicited bulk emails stuffing your mailboxes every now and then, as you can resort to the famous SpamAssassin anti-spam filter that we offer with every semi-dedicated hosting account. Our in-house developed Hepsia Control Panel will allow you to activate the filter for any mailbox with several clicks and you can select any of the five security levels – from very high to very low. The level can be changed at any moment if, for example, legitimate messages get filtered, or if unsolicited bulk messages go through and reach your inbox. To be on the safe side, you can choose all filtered email messages to be delivered to a special mailbox like spam@your-domain.com and not to be deleted. In this way, you can go through them every now and then to ensure that you haven’t omitted a legitimate email.
